The power of community at Xero Roadshow Australia 2019

Xero’s Head of Community, Amanda Newton, reflects on her recent experience at the Xero Roadshow Australia 2019. From as far as Darwin to Adelaide, and as wide as Perth to Sydney, Amanda traveled across Australia to present our latest commitments to the community before almost 7,000 accountants and bookkeepers.

There is an age-old African Proverb, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. For me, this speaks of the power of community and my recent experience at this year’s Roadshow.

It took three versions of the itinerary before I was confident to lock in a travel schedule that would give me the greatest opportunity to connect with as many of our Xero community in-real-life as possible. This was my first Xero Roadshow as Head of Community after having spent years on the other side as a Xero partner myself – seated amongst the rows of an auditorium; eagerly awaiting announcements, new ideas and inspiration that I could anchor my ship to for the coming months until Xerocon. It’s a feeling of anticipation and expectation that I could easily recognise on the faces of many attendees this year.

Let me share that my new perspective from the front was breathtaking! It was not lost on me that each venue I attended contained the collective wisdom of hundreds of accountants and bookkeepers, all looking to make a difference to themselves, their businesses and their clients. When I paused to consider the ripple effect of each individual Xero partner through to their small business client base, I realised the extent to which we have the makings of an economic tidal wave of positive influence and change – and that’s exciting!

What I proudly witnessed during Roadshow was a community embracing change and opportunity together. Whether they were seasoned Roadshow regulars or first-timers, everyone displayed countless examples of generosity, mutual support, a willingness to share ideas and professional comradery. It’s this approach that continues to underpin the foundations of our community, and ensures it is a place where all are welcome. I’ve returned refreshed, re-energised and inspired with new ideas and ways that we can continue to foster this extraordinary community for the year ahead.. bring on Xerocon 2019!
