Snapplify: digitising education in South Africa and beyond

Snapplify is an Edtech company, providing a comprehensive platform for distribution, reading and retail of digital educational content to educational institutions, and individual readers. Having previously worked with other publishers and e-retailers in the African market, founder Wesley Lynch saw an opportunity to become the next big player in the edtech space.

Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength, and is now the largest ebook aggregator in Africa with content from more than 250 publishers, over 100,000 aggregated titles, and over 600 resellers and online stores. Snapplify works with a number of leading publishers, including Macmillan, Penguin Random House and Oxford University.

Snapplify’s focus is on education, and the company offers a suite of e-reading and e-learning solutions to empower digital learning in the classroom. Used by schools, colleges and universities, Snapplify for Education creates one place where students and educators can read, share and access key learning resources via any device.

Since its beginning, Snapplify has used Xero and was one of the first companies in South Africa to adopt the software.

“We really haven’t looked back since I found Xero,” said Wesley Lynch.

Global domination

Its headquarters are in Cape Town, but Snapplify also has offices in Europe and Kenya with plans to launch into new markets soon.

Speaking of its global potential, Chantal Jones, financial manager at Snapplify, said: “The fact that Xero offers multiple currencies has made such an improvement to our accounting on a daily basis. Xero makes it very easy for us to expand, as no matter where in the world we go, Xero will be able to support us.”

Agility and accessibility

Chantal explained that: “from a financial point of view, the key benefit of using Xero is that we can be on top off our financial position and can collaborate with our accountants, hassle free. The fact that Xero is cloud-based also makes it so easy to access anywhere anytime at any given moment.”

Wesley further explained that for him Xero’s greatest advantage is its agility. “We are a tech business so it’s not just about using the accounting package for our day to day. We’re data driven so some of the features that we enjoy are the ease with which we can export data and the fact that it integrates so easily with other areas of our business.”
